Serbia’s top athlete, Ivana Vuleta, clinched the gold medal in the long jump event at the World Championships in Budapest with a leap of 7.14 metres in the fifth round.
This victory marks Vuleta’s debut as an open-air World Championship gold medallist, simultaneously setting a new Serbian record and achieving the best global result of 2023.
For Vuleta, this accolade stands as the pinnacle of her career. Previously, she secured two World Championship bronze medals and one from the Olympic Games. With this title under her belt, Vuleta has established herself as a favourite to ascend to the top podium spot at the Paris Games next year.

American Tara Davis-Woodhall clinched the silver with a jump of 6.91 metres in the initial round, while bronze went to Alina Rotaru-Kotman, leaping 6.88 metres in the sixth round.
“I’ve dreamt about this moment for so long, put in the work during training sessions, and now it’s finally come to fruition. I’m utterly elated,” expressed Vuleta post-victory in Budapest. “Throughout the competition, I was chiding myself, striving not to repeat the mistakes I’ve made before. Yet, I achieved what we set out to do.”
