British Defence Minister Ben Wallace said that Ukraine’s allies agreed to send more military equipment, including artillery ammunition and armoured vehicles, AP reports.
Wallace held a teleconference with defence ministers of 35 countries, including the United States, New Zealand, South Korea and Japan.
He said that the result will be “more lethal supplies that will arrive in Ukraine …, more long-range artillery, mostly ammunition”, in order to help combat Russian bombing of Ukrainian cities.
He added that Ukraine is also asking for armoured vehicles, not necessarily tanks, rather protected vehicles, and that the allies are considering what else they can do to help Ukraine defend its coast.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine began on 24 February, and more than 10 million people have fled their homes. Many of them, 4.6 million according to the United Nations, have left the country. The rest are displaced within Ukraine.
The last round of talks between Russia and Ukraine was held in Istanbul on 29 March. After the talks, Russia said that it intends to reduce military activities in Kiev, and Ukraine said that it would consider whether it should become a ‘neutral’ state.
Neutral status would mean that Ukraine will not join any military alliance such as NATO, nor it will host their military bases on its territory.
