Vaughan Gething is set to make history as the first black Premier of Wales following his victory in the leadership contest for the Welsh Labour Party, which has maintained a majority in the parliament for over two decades. 

“Today, we turn a new page in the history of our nation, not only because I have the honor of being the first black leader in a European country but also because we are witnessing a generational change,” Gething, aged 50, stated in his speech after the election results were announced, as reported by Reuters.
