In a year filled with Grand Slam victories and record-breaking stints at the top of the ATP charts, Novak Đoković has now conquered another summit: he is officially tennis’ highest earner of the year, according to Forbes.
With Roger Federer bowing out, who had monopolised the top earnings spot since 2007 with a yearly average of 75 million euros, and Serena Williams also winding down her high-earning career, Forbes was compelled to revise its list.
The Serbian tennis icon, Đoković, seized the top spot with yearly earnings reaching 30.5 million euros. This feat is all the more extraordinary given he raked in 10.6 million euros from tournaments alone, despite his absence from last year’s US Open.
Furthermore, Đoković’s stand against taking the COVID-19 vaccine did not deter sponsors. He secured a substantial 19.86 million euros solely from endorsements.
