Nikola Jokić, one of the world’s foremost basketball players and this year’s NBA champion, has been honoured for his role in enhancing Serbia’s global reputation, according to a statement from the Serbian Government.
The Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs bestows this accolade upon distinguished individuals who, through their professional endeavours, amplify Serbia’s standing on the world stage. Notably, prior to Jokić, tennis titan Novak Djokovic received the honour in 2020.
The commendation was presented by Serbia’s Chief Diplomat, Ivica Dačić. On this occasion, Dačić expressed profound gratitude to Jokić, highlighting how the basketball maestro often dedicates a portion of his triumphs to his homeland. Dačić went on to underscore the nation’s commitment to valuing and acknowledging the efforts and successes of its citizens on the global platform, be it in sports, arts, or any field where they surpass national confines and spread positive news of Serbia globally.
