The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has decided to suspend relations with Belarus due to the country’s active participation in Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

With this decision, the Council of Europe has prevented the participation of Belarus in all meetings and in all activities of the organization, as announced on the website of the Council of Europe, and reported by Tanjug.

This also refers to Belarus’ participation in certain Council of Europe agreements including the Venice Commission, but does not call into question the rights of Belarus as a contracting party to international conventions.

The Committee of Ministers also decided to suspend all technical cooperation with Belarus, but at the same time it was decided to maintain and improve relations with civil society in Belarus, and with its opposition in exile.
