EU Foreign Minister Josep Borrell reiterated at a working dinner he organized in Brussels for Western Balkan leaders that it is important to harmonize the common foreign and security policy “as a central element of the European path”, the European External Action Service (EEAS) said, noting that Western Balkan leaders have reaffirmed their strategic commitment to European integration and support for regional co-operation.
The focus of the working dinner was, as it was announced, on “the global regional influence of Russia’s illegal and unprovoked war against Ukraine and its people”, and on how the EU and partners from the Western Balkans can “together deal with harmful consequences of this war on food and energy prices and on regional global stability “.
“High Representative Borell welcomed the full support of Western Balkan partners in the UN General Assembly for resolutions on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The High Representative briefed leaders on the EU’s response in support of Ukraine, including restrictive EU measures aimed at limiting the Kremlin’s ability to finance the war. He reiterated the importance of harmonizing the common foreign security policy as a central element of the European path,” the EEAS said in a statement.
The EU adds that at today’s meeting in Brussels diacussions will be held on the situation in the region and an informal exchange of views with the foreign ministers of the Western Balkans.
