On this day, 60 years ago, the Serbian writer Ivo Andrić was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, at a ceremony in Stockholm.

Andrić was presented with the Nobel Prize in front of 700 guests including the Swedish royal family.

Andrić, the only Serbian Nobel Prize winner, donated almost the entire amount of the prize for the purchase of books and the opening of libraries.
