The Russian delegation received a clearly formulated position from the Ukrainian side in Istanbul and proposals that will be studied and sent to the country’s leadership, reporters were told by presidential assistant Vladimir Medinski, head of the Russian delegation.
“We have received Ukraine’s proposals for consideration, their clearly stated position for inclusion in an agreement. These proposals will be considered in the near future and will be presented to the president. And we will give an answer”, he said after talks with the Ukrainian delegation in Istanbul, adding that they had passed successfully.
Medinski said that Russia is taking two steps to de-escalate the conflict against Ukraine, related to the political and military aspects.
Tass reports that Ukraine’s written proposal includes a ban on the production and deployment of all types of weapons of mass destruction, and that Medinski said that on condition that the agreement is worked on quickly and a compromise is found, the possibility of peace will be closer.
Russian Deputy Defence Minister Alexander Fomin said that following the results of the first day of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul, the Ministry of Defence decided to drastically reduce military activity in the Chernihiv and Kiev directions to help the negotiations succeed.
