The Spanish city of Valencia has officially been awarded the title of European Green Capital for 2024, taking over from the Estonian city of Tallinn.

Valencia received the title in recognition of its past and ongoing achievements in the areas of sustainable tourism, climate neutrality, and a fair and inclusive green transition, as announced by the European Commission.

European Commissioner for the Environment, Virginijus Sinkevicius, stated that Valencia deserved the title due to its ambitious sustainability strategy, adding that the city’s strength lies in its people.
