Bosnia and Herzegovina has initiated accession negotiations with the European Union, a development hailed as a pivotal advancement for the Balkan country.
This move, endorsed at the EU summit in Brussels and based on a positive evaluation from the European Commission, sees the nation progressing on its path toward EU integration. European Council President Charles Michel praised the step, urging continued efforts to fulfill the aspirations of the Bosnian people.
The initiation of talks follows the EU’s affirmative assessment of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s readiness for membership, paralleling recent advancements with Ukraine and Moldova. Since applying for EU membership in February 2016 and obtaining candidate status in December 2022, Bosnia and Herzegovina now enters a crucial phase of detailed negotiations, marking a significant milestone in its European integration journey.
