A hat once belonging to the famed French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte has been sold at an auction in France for a staggering €1.9 million, as reported by local media.
This hat, known as a ‘bicorne’, was last owned by businessman Jean Louis Noysez, who passed away last year. It is believed that Napoleon possessed around 120 such hats during his lifetime, with the majority now lost to history.
Napoleon donned this particular hat between 1808 and 1815. Unlike most men of his era, he famously wore it sideways, creating a distinctive silhouette easily recognizable by his troops in the midst of battle.
This sale highlights the enduring fascination with Napoleon’s legacy and the artifacts associated with his tumultuous reign.
