The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a €17 million loan to the City of Belgrade for the construction of a new pedestrian and cycling bridge connecting New Belgrade to Ada Ciganlija.
As per the information released by the EBRD, the total cost of the project is estimated to reach up to €20 million, with the approval date set for June 28, 2024.
“This is a loan of €17 million to the City of Belgrade for the development and construction of a pedestrian and cycling connection between New Belgrade and Ada Ciganlija via a bridge over the Sava River. The project aims to promote active and micro-mobility and enhance connectivity within the city. It will be financed under the EBRD’s Green Cities framework,” the EBRD statement read.
The EBRD also mentioned that the construction of the pedestrian and cycling bridge over the Sava River is part of the City’s strategic commitment to encourage cycling as a clean mode of transport, improve accessibility, and connect Belgrade’s most populous area with Ada Ciganlija, the city’s main natural recreational zone.
