The Serbian basketball team has achieved a significant milestone by not only reaching the semi-finals among the top four global teams at the World Championships but also securing a direct spot for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Following a quarter-final match in which Canada triumphed over Slovenia with a score of 100 to 89, Serbia secured its Olympic berth as one of the top two European teams at the championships. The Serbian team last competed at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, where they clinched a silver medal.

Joining Serbia with direct Olympic qualification are Germany, who will face off against the USA in the World Championships semi-finals. Other teams that have secured their Olympic participation include South Sudan (the top African team), Japan (the top Asian team), the USA and Serbia’s semi-final opponent Canada (the top North American teams), Australia (the top Oceanian team), and France (the host of the Olympic Games).
The remaining four spots for the Olympic basketball tournament will be determined through qualifying competitions set to take place from 2 to 7 July 2024.
