Mexico questioned the use of elements from the Mayan indigenous culture by Chinese fashion company Shein.

It was stated that Mayan elements were used in the design of one of its women’s garments, prompting the retailer to remove the product from its website.

The Culture Ministry said that some details of Shein’s “Fan-Trim Top with Floral Print” were similar to a traditional huipil embroidery made by an artisanal clothing brand from southeastern Mexico in 2017.
