Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has spoken with Angolan Foreign Minister Téte António, and Minister of National Defence and Veterans of the Fatherland João Ernesto dos Santos about strengthening bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, defence and agriculture.
President Vučić emphasized that Serbia highly appreciates Angola’s support for its territorial integrity and sovereignty, said the president’s press office.
As part of an official visit of Angolan officials, Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selaković spoke with Angolan Foreign Minister António, with whom he signed four documents on improving cooperation between the two countries.
The ministers signed an agreement on the abolition of visas for holders of diplomatic and official passports, a memorandum on political consultations between the two ministries, and a memorandum on cooperation between the two diplomatic academies, while the respective chambers of commerce also formalized a memorandum of understanding.
Selaković emphasized that these four important documents create a basis for deepening the traditional and historical cooperation between Serbia and Angola, adding that our country is firmly committed to strengthening cooperation with African countries.
He said that both countries stand on the position of strict respect for the rules and principles of international public law, as the foundation for preserving equality and peace throughout the world.
The Minister once again expressed his gratitude to his colleagues from Angola for their clear and principled support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, and for their support in all international organizations.
He also noted that the mutual understanding and support that characterizes bilateral relations between Serbia and Angola was confirmed by the fact that Angolan President João Lourenço was awarded the highest decoration of our country on Serbian Statehood Day.
Selaković expressed the hope that Belgrade will have the opportunity to host President Lourenço, and told all the citizens of that African country that they could always feel at home in Serbia.
The Minister said that great opportunities to develop cooperation were discussed at the meeting, and that these should not be limited to trade, but include investment.
“Our cooperation is not only reflected in political consultations between the two ministries, but there is mutual interest in cooperation in the field of economy, agriculture, education, trade and defence and security”, said Selaković.
António, on the other hand, noted that the reforms carried out in Angola have created objective conditions for strengthening cooperation, and an environment that can bring more investment to Serbia, estimating that the two countries expect many good things in the future.
