Despite the events in Ukraine and the calls for Madrid to recognize the independence of Kosovo, Spain has stated that it still maintains its position on non-recognition of the southern Serbian province as a state.

The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this to the newspaper Gazeta Express, after a letter from American congressman Ritchie Torres to the Spanish institutions with a request to recognize the independence of Kosovo.

Answering a specific question from the Priština newspaper, the Office for Information of the Spanish diplomacy said that “Spain continues not to recognize the unilaterally declared independence of Priština”.
