Threats against British author Salman Rushdie have been renewed with the announcement of a $600,000 reward for his assassination by Iranian news outlets.
The British Indian author angered some in the Muslim world by writing The Satanic Verses, seen by them as blasphemous.
More than 20 years after the initial demand for his death on February 15 1989, 40 state-run media outlets in Iran have joined together to offer the reward for his execution.
One of the biggest contributors was Fars News Agency, connected to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), which donated one billion Rials (nearly $30,000).
This is the biggest push to assassinate Rushdie since the fatwa was first issued in 1989.
