So often at the forefront of innovation, Japan is set to unveil an express train designed to blend into the landscape.
Architect Kazuyo Sejima’s design for the next generation of Seibu Railway Co. trains has them covered in a semi-reflective metallic skin which gives them the impression they are part of the surrounding scenery.
‘The limited express travels in a variety of different sceneries, from the mountains of Chichibu to the middle of Tokyo, and I thought it would be good if the train could gently co-exist with this variety of scenery,’ said Sejima.
The trains will roll out officially on the tracks of Tokyo in 2018.
