Mihailo Jovanović, Serbia’s Minister of Information and Telecommunications, has been named Reformer of the Year by the National Alliance for Local Economic Development (NALED), acknowledging his significant contributions towards digitalizing the public administration and aligning electronic communications with EU standards.
This accolade was presented at an annual conference on economic reforms, supported by international partners, where the 16th edition of the Grey Book was also launched. The book offers 100 recommendations for improving Serbia’s business climate, emphasizing digital transformation and the importance of cashless payments to combat the grey economy.
The reform agenda for 2024, as outlined by NALED, focuses on simplifying electronic payments, abolishing outdated charges, and enhancing tax processes for entrepreneurs, alongside digitizing public services and expanding platforms for seasonal workers. These initiatives are critical for Serbia’s advancement, with the country’s economy currently at 44% of the EU average, indicating significant potential for growth through continued reforms.
The ceremony also recognized other key contributors to Serbia’s reform efforts, including public officials and media representatives, highlighting the collective endeavor towards a more modern and prosperous Serbia. International speakers at the event, including representatives from the EU and EBRD, praised the Grey Book’s role in guiding Serbia’s journey towards sustainable development and democratic governance, aligning with global standards and practices.
