The Afro festival 2019 opened with the exhibition “Under the Spotlight – Ancient Egyptian Collection in Museums in Serbia” in the crowded Museum of African Art in Senjak.

The exhibition presents some of the most valuable and rarely (or never) exhibited items from the ancient Egyptian collections of the Museum of Serbia and the result of cooperation between 11 museums and cultural institutions of Serbia.

Numerous visitors and diplomats addressed guests – Zoran Djordjević, Minister of Labor, Employment, Veterans’ Affairs and Social Affairs; H.E. Amr Aljowaily, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt and Dr Maria Aleksić, Director of the Museum of African Art.

The history of relations between Serbia and Egypt has its line of continuity which, over the years, recorded only the activities of exceptional cooperation, friendship and support on the political, economic and cultural level. The Museum of African Art, such as the exhibition, as well as the three-day event – Afro Festival – contributes to their further improvement, pointed out Marija Aleksić.
