Serbian farmers can now insure their crops and produce from the comfort of their homes or directly from the fields, thanks to a pioneering digital insurance policy launched by Generali Insurance Serbia in collaboration with the BioSens Institute. This innovative move, a first in the Serbian market, allows agricultural producers to manage insurance procedures, including policy signing, through a dedicated mobile application, accessible on both Android and iPhone devices.
The introduction of this digital agro policy marks a significant leap towards modernizing agricultural insurance, leveraging artificial intelligence to streamline the process of underwriting and claims settlement. Farmers are offered coverage against hail, fire, and lightning strikes, with options for insuring up to fifteen different crop types prevalent in Serbia. The application enables users to define the size of the insured plot and locate it via cadastral records or GPS coordinates, making the insurance process more accessible and efficient.
Highlighting the ease of the new system, Veselin Danilovac, a member of Generali Insurance Serbia’s Executive Board, reflected on the company’s two-decade-long commitment to evolving agricultural insurance processes. This initiative, particularly following last year’s devastating storms in Vojvodina, aims to reach farmers across Serbia, offering them a simple way to secure their livelihoods.
In Serbia, where approximately 500,000 households depend on agriculture, the coverage of insured cultivated land is significantly lower compared to neighboring regions. The state has responded by offering insurance subsidies ranging from 40 to 70 percent of the premium, depending on the region.
The partnership between Generali Insurance Serbia and the BioSens Institute has not only facilitated the latter’s prominence in the corporate realm but also heralded the introduction of advanced digital technologies and artificial intelligence in the agricultural insurance sector. Professor Vladimir Crnojević, director of the BioSens Institute, emphasized the pioneering nature of these collaborative efforts, showcasing a significant stride towards integrating cutting-edge digital solutions in the agricultural insurance industry.
