H.E. Virgínia Pina was born on 30th September 1969 in Barreiro, Portugal, and earned a degree in law from the Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon in 1992.
The former lawyer, Ms Pina, joined the Portuguese diplomatic service in 1996, initially serving in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until 2000. From 2000 to 2005 she served in the Portuguese Delegation to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), and from 2005 to 2006 worked at the Embassy of Portugal in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia.
Having held the post of Advisor on International Relations to the President of the Portuguese Republic from 2006 to 2010, she want on to serve in the Portuguese Representation to the European Union in Brussels from 2010 to 2014.
After serving as Senior Diplomatic Advisor to the Portuguese Prime Minister from 2014 until November 2015, she became Deputy Director-General of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs for External Political Affairs as of December 2015.
