Serbian writer, dramatist and academic Dušan Kovačević inaugurated the 65th International Belgrade Book Fair, which will last until 30 October at the Belgrade Fair under the slogan “The Return of the Written.”

Kovačević recalled the importance of the book, which, as he stated, “is medicinal and cures many diseases.”

“The book has been known since ancient times as a balm for the mind and soul. That’s why so many people are visiting this fair library of ours”, Kovačević said at the opening of the Fair, which he called “a manifestation in honor of the book”.

He said that he is pleased to welcome this year’s country guest of honor Romania, with which Serbia have always had good neighborly and family ties.

The academic also referred to the current moment in which the world as the warning that the disease of war is spreading every day and threatens to turn into a conflict with unprecedented consequences for people’s lives and the survival of the planet.
