Scottish MSP Colin Beattie, 65, launched the campaign in Parliament and has sent his condolences to those affected by the Toblerone shrinkage.

He called on Theresa May to “take speedy action” over the weight reduction.

“I like Toblerone, and I like it how it is traditional, with its nice, tight triangular pieces,” said Beattie. “Now they have changed it. Clearly it is a matter of international importance that it has happened and it is obviously a byproduct of Brexit. if Toblerone could make such a dramatic change, other treats could be next.”

Mondelez International, the American confectionery giant who make the pyramid-shaped bars, sparked outrage by almost doubling the gap between triangles. The large 400g bar now weighs 260g, while the 170g candy has shrunk to 150g.
