Serbia has announced the appointment of four new ambassadors, following a decree issued by President Aleksandar Vučić.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that Jelena Čukić Matić will serve in Sweden, Katarina Andrić in Venezuela, Aleksandar Ristić in Brazil, and Dragan Todorović in Libya. All appointees are seasoned diplomats with years of service in the Ministry.
Jelena Čukić Matić, a law graduate from the University of Belgrade with a background in her family’s law firm, has been with the Ministry since 1996. Her diplomatic career includes posts in London, Ottawa, Washington, and Bucharest, along with roles in the Ministry’s spokesperson’s office and departments for Europe, America, and the United Nations. She is multilingual, fluent in English, French, and Spanish.
Katarina Andrić, a graduate in Spanish language and literature from the University of Belgrade, joined the Ministry in 1996. Her experience includes roles in the Office of the President of the FR Yugoslavia and the Kosovo and Metohija status negotiation team. Since 2021, she has been the head of the Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues Section. Her diplomatic postings have spanned Tel Aviv, Lima, Buenos Aires, and the OSCE in Vienna. She speaks Spanish, English, and French.
Aleksandar Ristić, part of the Ministry since 2004, has been notably involved in the Africa and Middle East Department, serving as its head since 2023. His diplomatic career includes positions in Addis Ababa, Damascus, Beirut, and as the Ambassador to Ethiopia from 2019 to 2023. A law graduate from the University of Belgrade, where he also completed his master’s studies, Ristić is proficient in English and German.
Dragan Todorović, with a Ph.D. from the University of Belgrade, started his career in the Ministry in 1998 after working in the intelligence services. His postings include two terms in the Serbian Embassy in Tripoli, as well as Damascus and Riyadh, and most recently as the Ambassador to Iran from 2017 to 2023. Todorović, an expert in Arabic and Persian languages, has authored a monograph and various academic papers.
