The President of India, Draupadi Murmu, has arrived on an official visit to Serbia, where she will stay for three days.  She was welcomed by President Aleksandar Vučić on the new runway of “Nikola Tesla” airport.

“I welcomed the President of India. I am looking forward to this historic meeting that will further strengthen the friendship between Serbia and India,” Vučić announced on Instagram.

President Vučić will host the President of India, and the program of the visit foresees a formal welcome ceremony in front of the Palace of Serbia, a meeting in a narrower format, as well as plenary talks between the delegations of the Republic of Serbia and India.

According to the president’s office, after the media statements of Vučić and Draupadi Murma, the Serbian-Indian business forum will follow.

Murmu was born on 20th June 1958 in the village of Uparbeda in a family from the Santali tribe, which is the third largest in India. In July last year, she was sworn in and became the 15th president of India, the first person from Indian tribal communities to be elected president of that country, and the youngest and the first person born after India’s independence in 1947 to hold that position.
