At the end of last year, the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom of Spain approved grants in the total amount of 50 million euros for the financing of studies, consulting services or technical assistance in the countries designated as priorities by that decision, among which Serbia is the only European country.

The Minister of European Integration in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Tanja Miščević, and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism of the Kingdom of Spain, Maria Reyes Maroto, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Spain for the financing of studies and technical assistance in Serbia.

With this document, signed in the presence of the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vučić, non-refundable aid will be made available to Serbia for further strengthening of economic and overall social development.

Spanish Minister Reyes Maroto stressed that she is honored to be able to sign this memorandum of understanding on behalf of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, as it represents a new step forward in the already excellent bilateral relations between our countries.

According to her, this document will enable the preparation of studies, the provision of consulting services and technical assistance for strategic projects of common interest to be financed through donations from the Government of Spain.

“With the signed MoU, we intend to further strengthen the cooperation between Spain and Serbia, with the ultimate goal of supporting the development and economic growth of your country, within the process of accession to the European Union,” Maroto said.

She also emphasized, Serbia is the only priority country in Europe for this financial instrument of the Government of Spain, which reflects the close nature of our bilateral relations.

Miščević expressed her gratitude to the Government of Spain for the consistent support it provides to Serbia in the process of joining the European Union, and especially for this significant development aid, which is an additional important element in the further improvement of the overall relations between the two countries, the Government announced.

She explained that these funds will be used to stimulate economic development and strengthen the capacity of the Serbian public sector, and noted that the aid, whose main goal is to concretely contribute to improving the lives of Serbian citizens, is a direct result of the Spanish Prime Minister’s visit to Serbia.
