Serbia is entering a new phase of the fight against coronavirus, said Prime Minister Ana Brnabić and announced the start of a campaign to collect blood plasma from cured patients that will be used to treat newly infected people

Brnabić said at the press conference on the occasion of the start of the campaign that we entered the seventh week of the fight against the virus, noting that if it lasted a little longer, Serbia would be able to declare victory in that fight.

She appealed to anyone who has been cured of coronavirus and who can, to donate blood and help others beat the disease.

We have an increasing number of people who have been cured, 534 of them as at today, the Prime Minister emphasised, urging responsibility, solidarity and discipline.

Plasma therapy is a therapy that is only used in some countries, it is under preparation in France and the United States, for example, and we have started implementing it, said Brnabic.

She stated that in parallel with this, our scientists and researchers are working on testing another innovative therapy, high intravenous immunoglobulin therapy, with the help of our US experts.

In this fight, we can only win together. Please let us know if you are cured of COVID-19. You who come forward have the opportunity to save at least one human life and to announce victory over the virus in Serbia in a short time, in a few weeks, said Brnabic.

Acting Director of the Republic Health Insurance Fund (RFZO) Sanja Radojević Skodrić said that a large number of coronavirus-cured patients in Serbia want to donate blood plasma and stressed that the capacity for donation will be expanded and that a plasma bank is under preparation.

Director of the Institute for Blood Transfusion of Serbia Vesna Mijučić said that giving plasma to a diseased person boosts the person’s immune strength, thus enabling the standard therapy that we use and which, according to protocols, help everyone who is ill.
