Nestlé Unveils Plant-Based Meal Factory in Surčin, Serbia, with a €80 Million Investment

Nestlé has taken a significant step towards expanding its sustainable food production footprint by inaugurating a new €80 million plant-based meal factory in Surčin, Serbia.

The ceremony, attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Nestlé executives, marks a pivotal moment in Serbia’s industrial development. The investment, notable for its absence of government incentives, brings to light Serbia’s increasing attractiveness to foreign investors, particularly from Switzerland, and its commitment to eco-friendly manufacturing practices.

The factory, spanning 18,000 square meters and equipped with the latest technology, is set to produce a range of plant-based meals primarily for the European Union market. With an initial employment of 220 individuals, the project is a testament to Nestlé’s confidence in Serbia’s economic environment and its potential as a hub for sustainable food production. Marjana Davidović, Nestlé’s General Manager for Serbia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia, emphasized the company’s strategy to leverage Serbia’s rich agricultural resources, including local soy cultivation, to meet the growing demand for plant-based products in the EU.
