NATO member states have extended the mandate of Jens Stoltenberg, who will remain Secretary General of the Western Military Alliance until 30 September next year.
Stoltenberg will not now assume the post of governor of the Norwegian central bank, according to an announcement of the Norwegian Ministry of Finance issued to Reuters.
A Norwegian ministry spokesman said that Ida Wolden Bache will be appointed governor of the central bank for a full six-year term.
In his first decision in his new mandate, Stoltenberg confirmed that four new battle groups will be sent to Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania.
He said NATO member states had agreed to strengthen their defences by relocating 40,000 troops to their eastern flank in response to Russia’s invasion, Reuters reported.
