H.E. Christopher Hill, the newly appointed US ambassador to Serbia, took the oath and began preparations for coming to Belgrade, said the US Embassy.

In a personal message, the new US ambassador said that he was very grateful and extremely happy that the US Senate confirmed his nomination at the end of last week.

“My wife Julie and I are really happy for Belgrade to be our home in the next few years and that we will get to know Serbia and its dynamic people”, said Hill, as RTS reports.

He considered that so many things had changed since he was last in Belgrade and the region.

“Over time, I have learned to respect history and I have tried to learn its complex lessons, but I will not pack the heavy burden of the past in my suitcases. I am coming with a new view of Serbia from 2022, a country that the United States sees as an important partner and friend”, said Hill.

The newly appointed ambassador said he believed that these are, without a doubt, turbulent times, but that the two countries can face them together in a constructive spirit and with the awareness that they have many common interests.

“I want our bilateral relations to grow and prosper like never before, and I especially want them to emerge from these global challenges even better and stronger. I believe in the vision of dynamic relations between Serbia and the United States, based on deep foundations of mutual respect” observed Hill.
