Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Ambassador Sem Fabrizi, and President of the Paralympic Committee of Serbia, Zoran Micovic, visited today the training of Paralympic athletes who are preparing for the Tokyo Games, which are to start on August 24th. The two shooters will be part of the sports delegation of 20 athletes who will compete in Tokyo in 7 Paralympic sports.
During the visit Ambassador Fabrizi and President Micovic discussed the challenges of the Paralympic athletes but also of the broader community of people with disabilities, especially in the time of the pandemic and the need for this community to be better integrated in the society.
At the end of the visit, Ambassador Fabrizi supported increased partnership of the EU Delegation to the Paralympic Committee of Serbia also in view of the upcoming Games in Tokyo.
“In the EU we passionately advocate and work for full inclusion of all vulnerable and marginalised groups. No one must be left behind in modern democratic societies. In Serbia the EU has been supporting people with disabilities through a number of projects, aimed both at erasing physical boundaries – such as ramps, public facilities ‘ accessibility, equipping and adjusting schools; but also on awareness raising and policy aspect in the field of education, sports and social inclusion to create society for all.
I am therefore thrilled that we can advance further on this important cause together with the Paralympic Committee. I congratulate Serbia for having already won medals in Tokyo. I look forward to the same success at the Paralympics in Japan. Good luck to all, we will be cheering for you” said Ambassador Fabrizi.
Zoran Mićović, President of the Paralympic Committee of Serbia, pointed out that the great cooperation between the EU Delegation in Serbia and the Paralympic Committee of Serbia, which began several years ago, continues.
“Thanks to this support, our organisation presented Serbia and the Paralympic Committee and its values in the best possible way with the achieved sports and organisational results. We are immensely grateful to Ambassador Sеm Fabrizi and the Delegation of the European Union for continued cooperation, which we expect will further improve the position of people with a disabilities in our society, “ said Mićović.
