The national holiday of France, Bastille Day, commemorating events on 14th July 1789, has been marked by the Embassy of France in Belgrade.
– We are celebrating the holidays of the Federation, which symbolises the unifying of all French people regarding the notions of liberty, equality and brotherhood, which are our national values,” said Philippe Cerf, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of France, speaking at a reception that was also attended by new French Ambassador to Serbia, H.E. Christophe Lecourtier.
“France will continue to support Serbia on its road to the European Union and will support progress in the areas of the economy and the rule of law, which are essential for joining the European Union,” added Cerf.
The reception was attended by Serbian National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojković, as well as representatives of the government, the opposition, the diplomatic corps and cultural life. As is tradition, guests were able to enjoy French cheeses, wine and other French specialities, as well as traditional French music.
