Biljana Tomović, BMI Country Managing Director for Serbia and Montenegro

World’s Largest Roofing & Waterproofing Business

BMI is the only company on a global level providing solutions for both pitched and flat roofs

We believe in the strong customer benefit this holistic approach will bring as it will allow us to focus on the true underlying customer needs, rather than on individual technologies, says Biljana Tomović, BMI Country Managing Director for Serbia and Montenegro, speaking to CorD.

How did the merger with such a large system as this come about?

BMI Group is part of the Standard Industries family of companies. Standard Industries is a global industrial company with interests in building materials. Our innovative industrial solutions have maintained their enduring value for over a century, and we aren’t resting on our laurels.

We believe success relies on us always moving forward. We embrace change as an opportunity to remain agile and unlock possibilities, as we anticipate future needs and build towards them. Besides BMI Group, Standard Industries’ operating companies include GAF, North America’s largest and most advanced residential and commercial roofing manufacturer. Together, we represent the world’s largest roofing and waterproofing business. At the moment we operate 184 manufacturing facilities and 150 sales offices in 80 countries worldwide. On six continents we employ around 15,000 people.

BMI Group was established following the merging of Braas Monier and Icopal. Standard Industries acquired the Icopal Group in 2016, as leading pan-European manufacturer of waterproofing and flat roofing solutions. In 2017 Standard Industries acquired Braas Monier, as a leading manufacturer of pitched roofing solutions.

At the moment we operate 184 manufacturing facilities and 150 sales offices in 80 countries worldwide

The combined heritage of these two groups represents a rich history of delivering roofing and waterproofing excellence to customers, brings together some of the biggest and most trusted names in the industry and makes us unique. BMI is the only company on a global level providing solutions for both pitched and flat roofs.

What part of products do you import for the Serbian market?

BMI Serbia and Montenegro is a leading manufacturer of flat and pitched roofing systems in Serbia, with decades of industry experience. We deliver innovative roofing and waterproofing systems, designed to transform the way people live and work. Providing shelter, protection and peace of mind for architects, roofers, building- and homeowners alike. Our dedicated experts assist with design and project solutions, technical advice and product information for both residential and non-residential projects.

Our well-established and trusted brands such as Bramac, Villas, Wolfin, Icopal and Monier give BMI Serbia and Montenegro a face to the customer. So far, we have no production facility in Serbia and we import all of our products from neighbouring countries and affiliated companies all across Europe and the U.S. We are constantly striving to improve: by evolving our products, systems and solution, by developing our people and by enhancing our approach to the market in order to deliver exceptional value to our customers.

Are you satisfied with operations to date and what are your future plans?

Our plan for 2019 is to strengthen the markets’ understanding of the importance and benefits that high-quality building materials and roofing solutions can bring. We are also transforming the way we will address our markets, offering a full roofing system for all types of roofs, no matter whether they are pitched or flat. We believe in the strong customer benefit this holistic approach will bring as it will allow us to focus on the true underlying customer needs, rather than on individual technologies. At BMI, it is our ambition to provide roofing solutions that protect what matters most to people across the world.
