His first assignment abroad is as the second commercial secretary, then first commercial secretary, in Bonn in 1994. He became a first commercial secretary in Sarajevo, later confirmed in the same seat as an adviser in 2001.

Returning to Rome, since 2001 he has served in the Directorate-General for multilateral political affairs and human rights.

In 2005 he continued his professional career abroad as a first counsellor at the embassy in Belgrade. In 2008 he became ambassador to Maputo, also credited to Mbabane, Swaziland.

Since 2012, he has returned to the foreign ministry and is directly employed by the Director-General for globalisation and global issues and subsequently coordinator for EU relations – sub-Saharan Africa, while since 2013 he has been head of the unit for Balkan Countries.

In 2014 he became Deputy Director-General for the European Union and central director for European countries. Since 2015 he is also vicar of the Director-General of the European Union.

Ambassador Lo Cascio was awarded the title of official knight of the order of merit of the republic in 2007.

We are counting on the contribution of each of you to advance this already fruitful cooperation and to promote higher growth in both countries,” said H.E. Carlo Lo Cascio.
