President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić has received letters of accreditation from the newly appointed ambassadors of Egypt, Libya, the Republic of Korea and Algeria, and wished them a warm welcome and successful diplomatic service in our country.
In a conversation with the Ambassador of Egypt, Bassel Salah, the President sent greetings to President El Sisi, expressing hope that the Egyptian President will visit our country in the near future. He also thanked him for the understanding that Egypt shows for the positions of Serbia on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija.
President Vučić and Ambassador Salah stressed the need to revive the work of the Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation, and to conclude a series of agreements in the field of business, such as a free trade agreement, which would create a legal basis for strengthening cooperation. In this regard, they stated that the greatest opportunities exist in the field of agriculture, tourism, health, the machine industry and construction.
The President of Serbia congratulated the leadership and people of Egypt on major development projects completed – the transport and energy networks, new cities and increasing the capacity of the Suez Canal Free Zone.
Ambassador Salah said that he believes that President El Sisi will visit Serbia, because his visit would be of the greatest importance for the political and economic relations between the two countries.
During the conversation with the Ambassador of Libya, Mohammed Galbun, the President was pleased to note that the Ambassador was educated and worked in Belgrade.
President Vučić pointed out that the two countries have been connected for decades and that is why events in Libya are being closely monitored in Serbia, with a desire for stability to prevail there, which would enable economic development. Vučić added that we can work on increasing economic exchange and cooperation in all areas of social life.
Ambassador Galbun said that his goal during his ambassadorial mandate is to return relations between Serbia and Libya to their former level and improve them even further.
President Vučić sent greetings and congratulations to the new President, Yun Sok-yol, through newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Li Jeong, with the hope that high-level visits will be exchanged in the coming period.
President Vučić wished Ambassador Li successful work in Belgrade, expecting that with the support of the Serbian authorities his engagement will encourage the intensification of political dialogue and further strengthening of economic ties between the two countries. The President said that we have recently increased economic cooperation and trade significantly.
Ambassador Li said that he would continue the work of his predecessors on promoting Serbia as an excellent destination for investment by Korean companies, and on fulfilling the goal of doubling trade. He also expressed his intention to work on making the people of South Korea learn as much as possible about Serbia as a tourist destination.
He observed that more and more Korean companies are interested in investment conditions on the Serbian market, thanks to the work of the office of the Korean Agency for Trade and Export Promotion.
The two agreed that there are great opportunities for cooperation in other areas, such as education, culture and sports, as well as “smart city” projects, e-government and environmental protection. They emphasized the importance of the joint Information Centre, which has been successfully operating in Belgrade since 2017.
In a conversation with Algerian Ambassador Fatah Mahraz, Vučić expressed satisfaction with the traditionally friendly relations between Serbia and Algeria, and the expectation that bilateral cooperation in various fields, which is currently below existing opportunities, will gain momentum.
Ambassador Mahraz conveyed greetings and an invitation from President Abdelmajid Tebun for President Vučić to pay an official visit to Algeria.
President Vučić emphasized the importance for Serbian-Algerian relations of the visit of Prime Minister Benabderahman last October, during the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade.
The two expressed the expectation that new agreements will soon be signed, which will enable more diverse cooperation, and that the work of the Joint Committee for Cooperation will be activated.
President Vučić especially thanked Algeria for its principled position on respect for international public law and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia in connection with not recognizing the self-proclaimed independence of the so-called Kosovo.
Ambassador Mahraz said that Algeria, like Serbia, protects its independence in decision-making.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selaković also attended the ceremony of presenting credentials of the newly appointed ambassadors.
