Gordon Duguid, U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission, meet with Aleksandar Šapić, President of the Belgrade Municipality of New Belgrade to sign a humanitarian agreement which will fund the rehabilitation of three buildings in New Belgrade to convert them into daycare centres for children with disabilities.
The Municipality of New Belgrade provided the buildings to be rehabilitated and will cover the costs of utilities and electricity to be provided to the centres. U.S. European Command (EUCOM) invested $312,000 through its Humanitarian Assistance Program.
Work on the buildings will start in April and will include mechanical, architectural and electrical renovation so the three buildings fully comply with safety and accessibility requirements for individuals with disabilities.
The centres will provide all of the facilities necessary to offer daycare to more than 100 disabled people in the area. The disabled are among the most vulnerable citizens in Serbia and around the world. This project demonstrates the U.S. Government’s commitment to working with local municipalities in Serbia to improve the quality of life for its citizens.
