On 9 May 1950, the Schuman Declaration was presented, a document that is considered as the first step in the creation of the European Union. This day is marked as Europe Day.

This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic it will be celebrated in different circumstances. However, an interesting program awaits you this year as well.

Here is the list of the events marking the 2020 Europe Day in Serbia.

Friday 8 May, 3 pm – Ambassador Panel

The past, the present, and the future of the European Union and its relations with Serbia will be the topic of the online ambassadorial panel, which will be held on Friday, 8 May, at 3 pm on the Facebook page of the EU Info Center.

This year marks exactly seven decades since the publication of the Schuman Declaration, the first and fundamental document of European unification, and the bloc whose development began with the agreement between France and Germany today has 27 members.

The ambassadors of some of the founding countries, but also the diplomatic representatives of the EU member states that joined a little later, will be among the participants in the debate, which will be moderated by journalist Ljubica Gojgić.

Participants:
– Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Ambassador Sem Fabrizi
– Ambassador of Romania to Serbia, Oana-Cristina Popa
– French Ambassador to Serbia, Jean-Louis Falconi
– Ambassador of the Netherlands to Serbia, Gilles Beschoor Plug
– Ambassador of Italy to Serbia, Carlo Lo Cascio

The working language of the panel is English. During the debate, it will be possible to ask questions via Facebook.

Saturday 9 May – the Official celebration

During Europe Day itself, Ambassador Fabrizi’s address is planned, as well as a lot of online content, and several locations in Belgrade will be illuminated in the colours of the EU flag, blue and yellow.

10 and 12 May from 7 pm – Online poetry evenings

The Poetry Evening presents video performances by 22 poets from Serbia, Portugal, Finland, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Poland, Sweden, and Slovenia gathered through associations from Novi Sad, the Mračna komora, who will read poetry in their native languages, on the subject of solidarity.
