The institution of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection was established in 2004 with the adoption of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance. In 2009, when the Law on Personal Data Protection was adopted, the Commissioner has gained new authority in the field of personal data protection. Since the establishment of the institution to date, a powerful and efficient institution has been built, more than 63,000 cases have been solved, and both rights have been strongly affirmed. Therefore, we deemed appropriate to present the work of this institution to the general public in an interesting and easy-to-understand way through the Multimedia exhibition Development and Relevance of the Institution of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection.

The organization of this Multimedia exhibition represents one of the activities within the Project “Capacity Building of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection to effectively and adequately perform its legal duties and ensure the exercise of the right of access to information and the right to data protection and in accordance with European standards”, which, based on the Agreement signed between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, is funded from the Bilateral Program signed on November 18, 2013, and Annex No. 2 of the Agreement from August 3, 2015.

The exhibition will strive to showcase the development and work of the Commissioner’s institution throughout various types of audio and visual content, all with the aim to present this institution in a simple, interesting and understandable way. For example, the public will receive the information about the Commissioner through certain video content, but it will also be able to see what specific cases and processes of resolving them look like.

Furthermore, this kind of exhibition will demonstrate the impact of modern technologies on the exercise of basic human rights, such as the right to access information of public importance and the right to personal data protection, the exercise of which is ensured by the Commissioner.

Ceremonial opening of the exhibition is scheduled for the 28th of May 2018 at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Atrium of the National Library of Serbia in Belgrade.

The exhibition will be open for visitors in the period 29 May – 2 June 2018, from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. on working days and from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, and will be exhibited at the Atrium of the National Library of Serbia, 1 Skerliceva Street, Belgrade.
