Slovakia remains one of the five European Union nations that have not recognised Kosovo’s independence, stated Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar during a visit to Prague.

According to his statements, recognising Kosovo would constitute a breach of international law, akin to scenarios in Ukraine and Iraq.

Following discussions with his Czech counterpart Jan Lipavsky, Blanar emphasized that Slovakia denounces Russia’s assault on Ukraine as a violation of international law and stands firm in support of the attacked nation’s territorial integrity.

“We unequivocally condemn the actions of the Russian Federation as a breach of international law,” Blanar asserted, drawing a parallel with other instances where Slovakia has maintained a consistent stance on international law violations:

“International law was breached, for example, in Iraq, or in the case of Kosovo. We continue to uphold this position. We are one of five EU countries that have not recognised the independence of Kosovo because it violates international law. We insist on this stance and unequivocally support territorial integrity.”
