The European Union is considering tightening sanctions on Russia, as Moscow is accused of using the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia, which it seized, to store weapons and launch missiles into the surrounding regions of southern Ukraine, Brussels said.
“Moscow must continue to pay a high price for its aggression,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, justifying the proposed measures, the Guardian reports.
Given that the conflict continues and increasingly causes global energy and food crises, EU foreign ministers are considering a ban on buying gold from Russia, which would be in line with the sanctions already imposed on that country by the G7 members, according to the British newspaper.
More Russian citizens could also be blacklisted by the EU.
