Thailand has accepted an invitation to become a partner country of the BRICS organisation and hopes to join as a full member in the near future, the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

On 31 October, the Thai government received an official invitation from Russia, the organisation’s chair, to become a BRICS partner. 

On 24 December, during a cabinet session, the government decided to respond positively to the initiative.

The same day, Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a letter to its Russian counterparts expressing the country’s agreement to join BRICS as a partner country.
