The largest active volcano in the world, the 4,169-meter-high Mauna Loa in Hawaii, erupted after recent earthquakes, the US Geological Survey announced.
Volcanic ash has already covered a part of the closest vicinity of the volcano, the authorities from Hawaii said, and the lava flows after the eruption are currently limited around the top of the volcano itself and do not pose a danger to nearby settlements.
The Hawaii Geological Survey announced that helicopters will fly over the wider area of the eruption to analyze the eruption and the amount of smoke and ash released.
