The last Lenin museum in Europe, located in Finland, will soon close its doors, local media report.
Of the many museums dedicated to former Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin, established across Europe in the 20th century, Finland’s Lenin Museum in Tampere, founded in 1946, is the last one remaining.
However, the museum, housed in the building where Lenin and Stalin first met during a secret Bolshevik gathering in 1905, will close on November 3rd for renovations.
Museum director Kale Kalio told AFP that the decision to close was made because the name no longer “reflects the story we want to tell.”
“Some people think this is a kind of temple of evil because of its name,” Kalio said.
The state-funded museum will reopen in February 2025 under a new name, with a focus on the development of Finnish-Russian relations in the 20th and 21st centuries.
