A Japanese sake producer is set to make history by brewing the first-ever bottle of sake in space.
The ambitious project, spearheaded by Asahi Shuzo from Yamaguchi Prefecture, will result in a single bottle priced at $640,000, with proceeds donated to domestic companies advancing space industry development.
The experiment involves fermenting rice and other traditional sake ingredients aboard the International Space Station, which is scheduled to launch into orbit in late 2025.
The goal is to explore sake production under space conditions, anticipating future demand for alcohol as humanity begins settling on the Moon by the 2040s.
