The number of electric cars in the European Union has surged by nearly 50% in just one year, according to Eurostat.
Last year, 1.5 million new battery-only cars were registered across the EU, bringing the total number of such vehicles to over 4.5 million.
This represents a staggering 48.5% increase compared to 2022, highlighting the rapid growth of the electric vehicle market. To put this into perspective, six years ago, the number of newly registered electric cars was around 1% of the total.
The highest proportions of electric cars are found in Denmark (7.1% of all cars), Sweden (5.9%), Luxembourg (5.1%), and the Netherlands (5%), illustrating the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in these countries.
