The European Union has officially launched an initiative aimed at improving soil health monitoring and promoting sustainable agriculture.
The VHEATWATCHER project, funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe program, brings together a consortium of universities, research centers, and industry partners from across Europe.
According to the research team that met at Ghent University, soils in Europe are under increasing pressure due to intensified agriculture and climate change.
The European Commission has previously estimated that between 60% and 70% of the soil in the EU is unhealthy.
The goal of this project is to refocus countries on soil health restoration at the EU, national, and local levels.
