This year’s Bitef will be held from 23 September to 2 October at seven locations in Belgrade. The main program will feature nine plays from Germany, Belgium, Mexico, France, Serbia, Slovenia and Great Britain.
The thematic focus of the festival, whose slogan is “We – the heroes of our work”, is the issue of the modern society: job loss, precarious work, the labor market after the pandemic, professional retraining… and a special part will be made up of performances that treat the issue of work in the performing arts.
With the exception of the authors of the local plays, Bojan Đorđev, Maja Pelević and Olga Dimitrijević, all other (foreign) directors and choreographers are at Bitef for the first time, which gives this year’s program the character of exclusivity: Katie Mitchell (It’s not the end of the world), Jan Martens (Every attempt will end in broken bodies and broken bones), Valeri Mrezan and Muhamed el Khatib (Guardian Party), Aleksander Zeldin (Ljubav), Lazaro Gabino Rodríguez (Tijuana), Nina Rajić Kranjac (Solo) and Žiga Divjak (Crisis). Most of them are well-known names of world theater festivals, some even stars.
