Hungary will do everything it can to help Serbia achieve full EU membership as soon as possible, as long-term stability in the Balkans cannot be achieved without European integration, Hungarian President Tamas Szújok stated at a joint press conference with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
“We see Serbia not only as a strategic partner but also as a true friend,” said Szújok.
He emphasized that Hungary’s energy security is closely tied to Serbia’s, just as Serbia’s is to Hungary’s, underscoring the mutual dependence of the two countries.
“Moreover, our bilateral cooperation on the construction of the railway between Belgrade and Budapest is excellent,” Szújok added, promising that Hungary will do its best to speed up border crossings between the two countries by opening new border points.
The Hungarian president expressed gratitude to Serbia for respecting the rights of the Hungarian minority, who, he noted, enjoy a stable and well-organized environment.
Šujok was welcomed in front of the Palace of Serbia with the highest state honours.
Vučić and Szújok also visited Čurug and Žabalj, where they attended the blessing of the renovated Church of Our Lady of the Snows.
